I received my $560 worth of garbage jewelry from Bidz.com today- can anyone tell me how to deal with this ?

I bought $560 worth of jewelry for Christmas gifts for my daughters- the 1/2 carat diamond earrings are like 1/16th – I literally cannot even see the stones- they look like pieces of sand- the gold band on the rings are so thin and the topaz stones have no blue color to them- the pearls are greyish brown- the whole lot – not one nice piece that looks like the picture on the website—what would you do if you were in my position? I actually have to get APPROVAL from their company before I can ship back their crappy merchandise and then they are going to take out postage and a 15percent restocking fee so I’m going to be out at least $100. Any ideas what I should do?

I am wondering how to clean rings that have gemstones like rubies and diamonds, besides the jewelry cleaner.?

Like the jewelry cleaner you get from a jewelry store. Is there a good home remedy?

Dont put them in an ultrasonic machine ! Never with gems except very high clarity diamonds.
So, mild soap and a toothbrush are the best. Don’t use high acidity soaps or any bleaching product since that might attack your metal settings and ring.
For daily cleaning I use a towel made from microfibers, like the one’s for cleaning your glasses, to take the grease from the gems. (Diamonds love grease).

my wife is 7 months pregnant with our first child, its a boy.
shes 21 and im 23.
i was in this jewelry store in New York yesterday and there was a poster up showing a pregnant woman and her husband putting a ring on her finger and it had little pink stones on it above the poster it said “being a mom is beautiful, we have the ring to match”. i asked the sales guy and he said it use to be old tradition to get the mom-to-be a ring? he had a heavy russian accent so i just nodded.
is there a tradition like this? it got me curious because it would be pretty cool for me to get her one.
can you get them anywhere? what does this represent? like are you suppose to match the color stone to the gender?
also, do you give it to her before she gives birth or like the day of?

Hmmm…I haven’t ever heard of that one. I know it used to be a popular thing to get your child’s birthstone in a necklace, ring, or earrings but that’s it. It’s a cute idea though.

I learned by buying books and using online sites. There are also a lot of craft stores and beading stores that have free classes you can take. I found starting with the basics by learning techniques from books and practice can get you going. Then once you master that, you can either buy other more advanced books or learn some new techniques for free at the craft store classes.

So how do i take my jewelry business to the next level?

So me and a couple of friends bought a bunch of jewelry from Thailand and have been selling it around here. It is all sterling silver jewelry with semi-precious stones like amethyst or topaz, much like a birthstone ring you would give to a 16 year old girl or something. So far we have done pretty well selling it to friends of friends and such but we really want to take it up a notch. Recently, we put up a display at a salon with price tags on them and a poster, but we only sold 2. We are selling in the 20-30 $ a piece range. We could go a tad cheaper but we are afraid that people will than think it is really cheap jewelry and it actually looks nice. But would it be wise to drop the prices a bit? Raise them? we also have sold some on craigslist. but yea, any help would e much appreciated!

You can not change the fact that it is cheap. People know that you did not pay what you are charging, and the sterling silver is a very good clue as well. So if you raise or lower the price it will do no good. You need to target people who like cheap jewelery.

okay once i read this book…its about a girl in her aunt’s (?) care because her father died. her father arranged her marriage with a wealthy man named Grant. All goes well (rather unwell) and it becomes worse when Grant’s family moves in their house. There is also Helene who seduces Grant continually. Suddenly attempts on our heroine’s life start happening. It must be connected to the fact that her father removed all the stones from their jewelry and hid it at his tomb.
